Your Lecture group (worth 55% of the grade) combines Lecture Activities, the Midterm, and the Final. Your Lab group (worth 45%) combines Lab Reports and the Checkoff Quiz. Each category contributes to its group based on its own weight.
Unexcused lab absences incur a penalty of 10 percentage points per absence, deducted from the Lab group score after grades are calculated but before extra credit is applied. For example, if your Lab score is 85% and you have 2 unexcused absences, the penalized Lab score becomes 65%.
If either group falls below 60%, the projected grade is automatically an F, regardless of the overall weighted percentage. There is no rounding on the 60% threshold. When a group fails, the displayed final percentage shows the lower of the two group scores, since that is the limiting factor on your grade.
Extra credit (up to 7 percentage points total) applies to both the overall percentage and to each group's pass check, so it can lift a borderline group above the 60% threshold. Letter grades cut at A 90, B 80, C 70, D 60, F below 60.
